Good news, bad news

First the bad news... we had a Super Saturday this weekend at the school, where the teachers came in for a staff meeting and to work on their NAEYC portfolios. A teacher comes and says..."I just went into the fridge, and it's hot. I think there's a problem!" And yes, it was a big problem. A fully stocked fridge with all the food spoiled...gallons of milk, gallons of soy milk, tofu, cream cheese, soy yogurt...it made me sick to my stomach, literally! At least we cleaned it out and better to find out Saturday than Monday morning. But even worse than the spoiled food is that we do have to buy a new fridge, and these commercial units are pricey.
But at least we do have some good news. Quite a bit, even! We finally received acknowledgement of our NAEYC candidacy.

And, we received word that we were awarded a planning grant for The GLOBE Academy, a planned dual-immersion charter school.

Garden

I am a city girl. I grew up in the city and have never had any desire whatsoever to work in a garden. I hate bugs, I hate dirt, I hate the hot sun. I don't even like to go to the playground, it's kind of sad! This summer, I was inspired by one of my fabulous parents and one of my fabulous teachers (also a city girl), who decided to transform an unused part of the property into a garden. We planted a bunch of things: tomatoes, cucumbers, green peppers, cantalope, pole beans, pumpkins, zuchinni. I actually tilled! A bunch of things didn't make it due to lack of water, or over-watering, some unidentified beetles that ate up everything, and the heat! Yesterday we had the pleasure of finding a cantalope that had made it. I am not a big cantalope fan, but it tasted better than any store bought cantalope I have ever had. I even spent some time in the garden thsi morning getting rid of some weeds and trying to see if the watermelons were ready (heck if I could tell!). I'm actually excited about getting ready for our fall planting.

Dreams of New Blog

Thank you for stopping by! I am an avid lover and reader of many wonderful blogs out there. I can spend hours on the internet! I tend to read many "mommy" blogs, bilingual education blogs, and coupon blogs. On my favorite blogs, its evident that the blogger knows their audience and has thoughfully crafted each post. I've struggled over the last few months, even year, over what to make of this blog, which was supported by so many people in the beginning stages of Little Linguists. But as we got into the day to day grind, I had reached a point where I wasn't really sure what to write about.
So I decided this blog is not going to be just about Little Linguists, necessarily. That is definitely a huge part of who I am and what I do on a daily basis. But...I am also in the process of launching another joint business venture, I'm involved in starting a dual-language immersion school, I'm a coupon-loving, bargain-shopper mom and a domestically challenged wife. I cannot guarantee that I am a good blogger, but I will try to meet your expectations. This blog will incorporate a little bit of everything, I hope you enjoy it! Feel free to shoot me an email and let me know if there is something you'd like to see.
