Today is a big day!!!

Today is a big day! Huge. I cannot divulge tooo much information quite yet. But stay tuned. Here's a hint: I'm awfully dressed up today * by my standards...lol. I have on slacks, a sweater, make-up, and my hair is combed; I actually have heels that I plan to change into. Wepa! Normally I have on jeans, a Little Linguists Tshirt over a thermal, and some comfy shoes. What can I say? Today is a big day! Fingers crossed and happy thoughts!!

Planting Day 2010

We are embarking on Phase 2 of the garden project. It's going to be really ambitious - we are going to turn the whole entire plot into edible landscape using the expertise of Truly Living Well . I am not a green thumb, but I am super excited. Please join us - families, friends, and neighbors - as we join together on Planting Day September 18 beginning at 9am-noon. We will have refreshments and garden items for sale made by our children. Above are some pictures of the Garden today. Not bad for beginners!

Life in the Crazy lane

We are gearing up for what may actually be a crazy next few days! We pride ourselves on being quite overstaffed, which is a huge help when people are sick or have other emergencies. Last week though, we were down two teachers: a teacher's husband was hospitalized, so she will be out for a few weeks. That sucks for us, I know...but in the grand scheme of things, who cares? The important thing is that he is okay. Two teachers down= we are okay! No major problems. Hopefully things will continue to go well. Friday we were 3 teachers down (one out of country, one scheduled vacation day, and one scheduled off). See how this works? Two down, we are okay. Three down, we can manage. More than that and we might be in trouble! We had an unprecented event in having to send staff a memo today that we are unable to approve any time off thru the end of September, barring of course, a true emergency!!

Good news, bad news

First the bad news... we had a Super Saturday this weekend at the school, where the teachers came in for a staff meeting and to work on their NAEYC portfolios. A teacher comes and says..."I just went into the fridge, and it's hot. I think there's a problem!" And yes, it was a big problem. A fully stocked fridge with all the food spoiled...gallons of milk, gallons of soy milk, tofu, cream cheese, soy yogurt...it made me sick to my stomach, literally! At least we cleaned it out and better to find out Saturday than Monday morning. But even worse than the spoiled food is that we do have to buy a new fridge, and these commercial units are pricey.
But at least we do have some good news. Quite a bit, even! We finally received acknowledgement of our NAEYC candidacy.

And, we received word that we were awarded a planning grant for The GLOBE Academy, a planned dual-immersion charter school.
